Microsoft software licenses (SPLA) operate on a monthly subscription basis. This article explains the cancellation terms for add-on software versus the core Operating System.
Billing Rule: Full Calendar Month
Microsoft licenses are not pro-rata refundable regarding cancellation.
If you cancel a license halfway through the month, the license remains active and billable until the end of that calendar month. The billing stops effectively on the 1st of the following month.

1. Cancelling Add-on Licenses
This applies to software running on top of the OS, such as:
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Remote Desktop Services (RDS SALs)
- Exchange Server & Office
Procedure:
These licenses are not automatically removed if you uninstall the software or delete the VPS. You must explicitly request cancellation.
- Send an email to support@tilaa.com.
- State clearly which license(s) for which VPS ID should be terminated.
- Ensure you send this request before the last day of the month to avoid charges for the next cycle.
2. Cancelling Windows Server OS
The license for the Windows Operating System itself functions differently because it is tied directly to the existence of your VPS instance.
- Automatic Cancellation: You do not need to send a separate email for the OS license. When you cancel the VPS subscription in the dashboard, the Windows Server license is terminated automatically at the same time.
